Tech Play 2: Wiki Reflections
Exploring:
I did some exploring of different technology tools and created my first class wiki. It's a great format because it can be used in a sort of blog style or a "classroom" style that allows students to collaborate with me and their peers.
Creating:
You can view my new ETEC 524 wiki at https://llcraft.wikispaces.com/
Identifying Affordances:
The format of the wiki I chose is great in terms of affordances. It has comment features that aid in collaboration and it allows the teacher to limit or expand the number of people who can view and edit the content. There are ways to add documents and text that allow for a great range of "projects' that can be accomplished using the wiki technology.
Considering Context:
I don't think I would necessarily choose to use another site or service in my classroom. I feel like even 6th graders are technologically literate enough to use this wiki format to put together and e-portfolio or do other kinds of more collaborative online projects. I think this particular site is generic enough for me to use in graduate course, like this one, but still versatile enough for my kids to use on an everyday basis in our classroom. I think it's important to not have a format that is just specific to one age or group, so that the tech can grow with students at all stages of their academic careers.
